At the end of this course staff will be able to identify and understand:

2.Health and Safety Implications of Lone Working Management - Safe Systems Of Work
3.How to minimise the likelihood of an incident occurring in the community by detecting ‘Pre-Incident Indicators’
4.How to recognise the cues prior to a person becoming very aggressive or violent
5.Appropriate ways of using body language to stay safe
6.Verbal Defuse Strategies which de-escalate and reduce risk of violence.
7.Time, Distance and Opportunity in relation to Exit/Escape route Proximity
8.The rights, responsibilities and implications of using force to disengage or defend oneself.
9.Decision-making under pressure, focussing on the important.
10.Strategies for Managing Fear.

Informed staff will be better able to use their knowledge, judgement and skill to ensure they are acting appropriately and legally to safeguard themselves and their service users in exceptional circumstances.
